Message from CEO

The organization has strived to grow, improve itself and remain relevant through increasing its services and reach in the country. BGBVC currently runs three sites, being Gaborone (where its head office is located), Francistown and Ghanzi. The organisation has built a track record of Gender Based Violence prevention and response services and continues to grow through learning and partnerships with local, regional and international stakeholders, and with the Government of Botswana.

BGBVC is led by a dedicated Board of Trustees, composed of individuals with experience in development projects, who meet on quarterly basis to review BGBVC operations and provide strategic guidance. The Management team is also composed of qualified and experienced individuals, with extensive knowledge in project management and the local context of implementation. The team is led by a Chief Executive Officer, supported by the Programmes Manager and Finance and Administration Manager, who work with teams to advance the mandate of the organization.  BGBVC is guided by systems that are in place, including: human resource policies, procurement and financial policies, and communications policies; the internal controls are in place and adequate to manage internal financial and operational risks and are enhanced by segregation of duties in authorization of funds. External Audits are performed annually by an accredited and regulated audit firm, appointed by the Board of Trustees, to gauge internal controls and advice management accordingly.

There have been some challenges facing Botswana civil society organizations as a result of the country being classified as a High Middle-Income Country. This affected funding flows from international donors. As an organization, BGBVC has remained resilient and continued to serve the nation through innovative ways such as engaging local and international volunteers, interns posted by the government through the and National Internship Programme.

We are committed to continuing to serve the nation by leveraging on the use of technology to provide tele-therapy to those requiring counselling services and not able to reach our three offices. We also want to continue to improve our programmes by utilizing our data to inform programming and to sustain the relationships that have been established through Memoranda of Understanding with tertiary institutions, the media and the private sector. We are hoping to be able to establish more partnerships with local and international organizations.

Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude to all our partners/stakeholders, the board of trustees, management, employees, volunteers, interns, development partners/donors, and our beneficiaries for their contributions to driving the mission of BGBVC as an organization that seeks to promote peace in our society. We remain committed to the protection of human rights throughout our communities.

Lorato Ruth Moalusi   /  Chief Executive Officer
